What We Do

We strengthen families across Northeast Louisiana by providing direct support to those living with Alzheimer’s and dementia. Through grants, resources, and education, we bring hope, dignity, and relief to the people who need it most.

Our Mission

The mission of the Northeast Louisiana Memory Care Foundation (NELA Memory Care Foundation) is to provide charitable support to individuals and families in Ouachita Parish and surrounding areas who have been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease or other dementia-related disorders, as well as those who care for them. Services are provided to individuals with official documentation of diagnosis from a licensed medical provider, and all assistance is offered on a case-by-case basis to ensure resources are directed to those most in need. The Foundation exists to relieve the burdens and hardships faced by these individuals and families through financial assistance, education, and community outreach.

The NELA Memory Care Foundation places special emphasis on individuals diagnosed with early-onset Alzheimer’s—those 65 years of age or younger—who often experience sudden, life-altering changes. Many are unable to continue working or maintain their usual responsibilities, creating financial and personal challenges. The Foundation provides practical and timely support to promote independence, safety, and quality of life for these individuals and their families.

The NELA Memory Care Foundation provides grants funded by private donations to assist with costs not fully covered by insurance, including, but not limited to, medications, physical, speech, and occupational therapies, and consultations with specialists in Alzheimer’s and dementia care. Additional support includes home safety modifications such as grab bars, lift chairs, walkers, wheelchairs, and secure home monitoring systems, as well as short-term financial aid for bills and caregiver expenses. Assistance is determined on a case-by-case basis, ensuring that resources are used where they are most needed.

In addition to financial relief, the NELA Memory Care Foundation engages in educational and awareness initiatives to inform the public about Alzheimer’s disease and related disorders, and to provide caregivers with resources and guidance to improve care and reduce stress. By combining direct assistance with education and outreach, the Foundation seeks to enhance the well-being, dignity, and independence of individuals affected by Alzheimer’s and support families in managing the significant challenges associated with this disease.

The NELA Memory Care Foundation operates exclusively for charitable, educational, and relief purposes, and no part of its net earnings benefits any private individual. All activities are conducted in accordance with IRS 501(c)(3) regulations to ensure that contributions are used to directly benefit the communities and individuals the Foundation serves.
